On 12 December last Wes Mackey will be 72 years old, but that does not mean he is slowing down.
Wes was born in South Carolina and lived again some time in Vancouver, Canada. He has played with include John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters and Jimmy Reed, has toured North America and Europe and has - with a short break, a musical career spanning fifty years behind. After a break in 2008, he picked up the thread again with "Second Chance". And after "Beyond Words" is now his third album "Life Is A Journey" in stores.

The album actually consists of two parts. In the first half looks back on his life. He sings about his childhood and wild years "Thank You Carolina," his period of homelessness in "Shine A Light (Dark Night Blues)", his love for Paris in "Blue In Paris" and with sitar enriched "Ganga Blues" is about his stay in India.

In the second part, he looks more to the future. It starts with its own version of the old "Hellhound On My Trail", followed by the swinging, light-hearted "Rapper Will" and "Blues Rules" just to name a few. Enclosed is the album with the thoughtful "Life Is A Journey".

A very nice blues album. Songs with personal lyrics, which Mackey considered past and look to the future. The songs are well written and have a catchy rhythm. Wes has a pleasant, slightly hoarse voice and a clear voice, making his songs are well understood. Highly recommended.
